HANOI—Tens of thousands of people flocked Thursday to the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum in Hanoi to pay their respects to the independence hero and founding father of the Vietnamese Communist Party.

Braving seasonal showers, young and old alike stood patiently in line waiting for their turn to catch a brief glimpse of the embalmed body of Ho Chi Minh on the traditional National Day pilgrimage.
