Thanks to the favorable reviews, I finally caved in and saw The Amazing Spiderman directed by Marc Webb. While I still think it is too early for a reboot, I was grateful the experience was worth it. The flying sequences, the radioactive spiders scene, and the climatic finish looked incredible on the 3D IMAX screen. But more than that, the leads: Andrew Garfield (Social Network, Never Let Me Go, Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus) and Emma Stone (Easy A, The Help, Zombieland and geek favorite Robot Chicken) did a great of job bringing the brilliant, sweet but often fumbling Peter Parker and the lovable, crushable future scientist Gwen Stacy.

The story now involves a few more hints into Peter Parker’s past and introduces Richard Parker (Campbell Scott), his father and genetics whiz; it reveals a mystery involving Richard’s sudden flight and disappearance. It also has a little story of how Peter got his eyeglasses. Finally, it’s great to see how Gwen is in love with Peter Parker (not Spiderman).
