The parade of foreign music artists coming to perform in Manila continues this weekend with American Idol Season 7 winner David Cook, and in August with ‘90s alternative rock darlings Smashing Pumpkins. While Cook has more of a mainstream appeal and the Billy Corgan-led Pumpkins more of a niche audience, both have solid Pinoy followings and should make for interesting shows.

I had the pleasure of interviewing Cook during his last visit to Manila in 2009, a day before his twin-bill show with his Idol runner-up David Archuleta. He was noticeably jetlagged and a bit exhausted after chatting with half a dozen music journalists, but he was pleasant and expressive throughout.
